A Space to Create
Perched on a hilltop overlooking the historic Hartley Village, the ‘Talisman Gallery’ is an iconic blacksmith workshop that has been around for almost 30 years in the Hartley area, founded by Ron Fitzpatrick; a local artist sculptor and blacksmith.
The Talisman Gallery is located on top of the hill behind the church in the Hartley Historic Village run by the National Park and Wildlife Service surrounded by some other great small businesses, like the old post office which is now a café called the ‘Post Mistresses’ and ‘Gold Rush Antiques’ operating out of the old ‘Corney’s garage’.
Today, the blacksmith workshop is run by craftsman Josh Lawson who has many years experience creating from black ironwork to fine precious metals. Josh also works with leather, crafting whips, wallets, slippers and hats and has recently begun making wooden bows. Looking ahead, Josh hopes to grow the forge into a space where creators of all skill levels can learn, experiment, and craft with confidence.
Come check out the gallery and enjoy the view!
